Example 2

AGENT YORK
ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS
RESIDENCE • Queens
JOB • Unemployed
Character Information
Please see the permissions post linked below for inquiries.

Earth AU:
  • York is a longshoreman who works on the docks in Manhattan. He comes into this job after a tour of the country by train, and had originally worked on the oil rigs in Texas.

  • York is affable and easygoing, and will surely be a fast friend to anyone who decides to approach him for a conversation. He enjoys parties, as well, though he might withdraw after a period of time being there to get some time alone.

  • York shows signs of being ADHD, but has never been tested for this disorder. He sometimes has trouble expressing himself verbally, but makes up for that by being talkative in a careless way, babbling until he gets his thoughts through—or until someone helps him do so.

  • Similarly to what happens in canon, York has suffered an accident that caused damage to his eye. In the case of his Earth AU, however, it was a forklift battery that blew up in his face. For this reason, his eye scarring looks a bit different, including puckering and twisting, thickened flesh from the acid burns.
Canon:
  • Though York comes from a comedy canon, it can be kind of dark in places. Themes that are present in York's canon include genocide, war, ethics, sacrifice, and torture.

  • York is a soldier, having been recruited to Project Freelancer for unknown reasons. My headcanon is that the soldiers who joined the Project were under some kind of review or in danger of court martial, and were able to join the Project to avoid consequences.

  • York's eye injury was the result of his teammates using a live grenade on the training room floor. The grenade went off right beside his helmet, shattering the visor. The scarring on his face is composed of lines that crisscross over his eye.

  • York's canon personality includes the decision to betray the Project in order to "do the right thing," a choice his Earth AU never had to make.
Physical:
  • York's eye scarring looks different between his Earth AU and his canon self, a subject that is touched on above. In both cases, however, the eye is covered by a white cataract that blocks his vision in that eye.

  • York is heavily muscled, a result of his job being to lift and move cargo all day. He also works out in the morning, so he keeps his energy up throughout the day and keeps up his physique for his job.

  • Vital statistics:
    • Height: 6' (183 cm)
    • Weight: 225 lb (102 kg)
    • Hair: Brown
    • Eyes: Blue
    • Gender: Male
    • Race: European
  • York speaks in a standard American accent with a slight Southern twang (an Austin accent). This video contains a good example of his typical speaking voice.

  • York is slightly vain about his appearance, always keeping his body in peak condition and his hair gelled and coiffed. The fact that his eye is scarred beyond all repair is a sore point with him and he will not take teasing or comments about his eye gracefully.
Abilities:
  • Earth AU:
    • Vehicle repair and maintenance
    • Plumbing and HVAC
  • Canon:
    • Picking locks, including advanced technology such as holographic and encrypted locks
    • Marksmanship
    • Hand-to-hand fighting
    • Equipment maintenance
Memories
Those memories marked with a ✭ have been regained.

  1. Lock Picking – York learns his hobby, which later becomes his career.

  2. Enlisting – A reality for every young man during this time of war, York joins the armed forces.

  3. Meeting Carolina – A young woman with red hair approaches him at a dance club bar and grabs his lighter out of his hand.

  4. Court Martial – His superiors finally have enough of his penchant for breaking into forbidden areas and threaten a court martial.

  5. Joining the Project – Project Freelancer contacts him with an offer he can't refuse—join them and get out of trouble.

  6. Armor – York receives his armor and learns to use its onboard HUD and other equipment.

  7. 3-on-1 – York helps fight Tex and ends up getting a grenade to the face for his trouble. His eye is injured.

  8. AMA – York joins the mission, checking himself out of the infirmary to do so.

  9. The Sarcophagus – York breaks the rest of the team into the archives, and makes his way to the roof.

  10. Bailing – York is forced to bail off the roof with his team, thankfully landing in a car being driven by Maine.

  11. Spiral – York takes over driving and watches while Carolina and Maine fight the Insurrectionists. At the end of the fight, York questions Carolina. "Who cares who's first?" he asks. "I do," she replies.

  12. Pelican – York ends up on the rescue flight and offers his hand to Carolina to help her onto the ship.

  13. Questioning – York tells North he's unsure they're doing the right thing.

  14. Delta – York is given Delta as a helper for his eye injury. The presence of an AI is a totally new and unexpected thing, and the two have trouble integrating at first.

  15. ✭ Mission Unaccomplished – While York was trying to open a lock on the Staff of Charon, he realized that the Director was using a laser cannon to open a hole into the ship instead of allowing him to finish his assignment.

  16. Space Travel – From his position in space, York uses his jet pack to get to the main hangar.

  17. Defeat – York returns to the Mother of Invention with everyone else—sans CT.

  18. The New Kid – York and North introduce Theta and Delta—mostly at York's insistence.

  19. Training Rounds – York watches as Delta administers Theta's test as a battle AI.

  20. Classwork – York and Delta attend AI classes, where South gripes about not geting her own AI. Sigma also pipes up during this session, convincing York that he's kind of a creep.

  21. Conversation – York and North confide in each other about the thoughts they notice their AIs having about the Alpha.

  22. Dropship – Pelican 479 drops the team at the docks, where they fight the team they still believe to be Insurrection.

  23. Battle – York arrives at the main battle and is asked by Carolina to cut the power. He succeeds, though not without Delta bragging that he had done most of the work.

  24. Oversight – York watches while Carolina pushes herself to train late into the night, misinterpreting her motivations to be all about the leaderboard.

  25. Envy – York learns about Carolina's decision to request two AIs.

  26. Surgery – York waits with the rest of the team while Carolina undergoes surgery, making sure to be there to greet her when she wakes up.

  27. A Crowd – York tries to advise Carolina on how to proceed in the fight against Tex.

  28. Allison – York is a witness as the Director calls out a name—the name that changes everything. He is among those whose AIs call out for Allison, and he breaks down, falling to his knees, unfortunately not witnessing as Carolina does the same.

  29. Punchout – York is a witness, however, when Tex knocks Carolina out with a punch to the face.

  30. Bedside Manner – York stays at Carolina's side in the infirmary, even as she remains there unconscious for days.

  31. Washout – York learns about Wash's strange behavior after his AI implantation.

  32. Change of Plans – Tex approaches York about helping her break into the Project to rescue Carolina and the Alpha.

  33. Wyoming – York and Tex learn that Maine is trying to capture Wyoming's AI, and they travel to Sidewinder to fight him. Unfortunately, Gamma self-ejects and the two of them have to simply escape to avoid Maine targeting them instead.

  34. Return – York and Tex return to the ship to break in and carry out their rescue.

  35. Men – York fails at creating the big diversion Tex wants, and goes in search of another route.

  36. No gravity – York disengages the false gravity on the ship, then makes his way through to the elevator shaft.

  37. Failure – York fails at convincing Carolina to leave with him, and they fight. She defeats him and throws the lighter, the token of their friendship, back at him.

  38. Defeat – York, stunned from the crash, fails to rescue Wash or any other of his friends. Instead he simply runs.

  39. Man on the Run – York spends the next several years dodging the Project, though he's living on Sidewinder, making this difficult.

  40. Dead or Alive – York learns the Freelancer he's been tracking is Tex, not Carolina. Discouraged by this and realizing that he's holding onto her memory too tightly, he decides to let her memory go.

  41. Reunion – York is approached by Tex once again, this time for help getting into Wyoming's fortress. He agrees, after clarifying that he's cracking a holographic lock, which is much harder than an encyrpted lock.

  42. Firefight – One last desperate gunbattle leads to York being shot in the chest. Unhappy that he's dying at Wyoming's hand, he asks that Delta not sedate him. By then, it is too late. York loses consciousness and later, dies.
